Combat Pistol Training

A two day introduction to Pistol

This class is to establish correct handling of the service pistol, firing stances, positions to be used, and dry fire practice to develop sight picture and trigger control. It is a combination of classroom and live fire, to build basics for the individual to take back to practice and implement into future training.

Sight Picture

Sight placement is the positioning of the weapon’s sights in relation to the target as seen by the firer when he/she aims the weapon.

Weaver Stance

The shooter stands slightly bladed in a classic “boxer’s stance” and pushes the gun toward the target using the strong hand, while at the same time pulling back the gun hand with the weak hand.

Isosceles Stance

The shooter grasps the gun with two hands, extending the arms straight out toward the target with the two arms and the shoulders forming an isosceles triangle

Speed Reload

An emergency reload is needed when you have spent all the rounds from your magazine and your slide is locked back.

Tactical Reload

Grab the fresh magazine you touched earlier and insert it into the gun in the same fashion as the Speed reload, but this reload doesn't require manipulation of the slide.

Type 1 Malfunction

Often a type-1 malfunction is a misfeed, in which a round was not loaded into the chamber (e.g. you didn't rack the slide after you loaded a magazine, or the magazine wasn't seated enough to load a round).

Type 2 Malfunction

When you pull the trigger, there is no "click" (or "boom"). Sticking out the chamber is visible brass. This brass is what gives the type-2 malfunction the name "the stove pipe". It is also known as a failure to eject.

Type 3 Malfunction

The fired casing does not get pulled out of the chamber and a new round has now being loaded into the breech. This is known as a double-feed and a failure to extract.
